SOME INFORMATION ABOUT ME & BECOMING A COUNSELLOR

Fiona Wetherell Counsellor Folkestone KentI was born in India where I spent my early childhood before being sent to boarding school at the age of 5, initially in India and then in the UK. I am a boarding school survivor and am familiar with boarding school syndrome. My degree is in education and having taught for a year, I subsequently moved into marine insurance in London where I worked for over 30 years, 4 of which were spent in the Greek office. At the age of 55, I was able to follow my dreams and retrained as a counsellor. I believe that all my varied life experiences have greatly enhanced what I believe I can offer as a counsellor.

I have always had a passion for animals and have two dogs and a pony all of whom help me to keep mentally and physically fit.

My training was integrative meaning that I can draw upon different theories to tailor my approach to suit you. However, the most important aspect for me is the therapeutic relationship which enables you to explore, in a safe and contained way, those thoughts and feelings which may be troubling you and to gently discover the origin of these through looking at early life experiences. A shared understanding of any difficulties you may be experiencing may help you to identify patterns of behaviour and see the way to make changes.

I work towards offering you warmth and empathy and a safe non-judgmental space within which to make sense of your thoughts and feelings.

I think that the pandemic has brought up issues for many of us and it is not always easy to talk to family and friends about these. This is where counselling can be helpful. It can be difficult making the decision to have counselling and hard to choose a counsellor. I offer a free initial session, either face-to-face or on the telephone during which we can discuss your requirements; I can explain the way I work, enabling you to make an informed choice as to whether I am the right therapist for you.

I am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) for Data protection purposes and have appropriate professional indemnity insurance along with an enhanced DBS check.

If you’re wondering about my fees, I charge £45 for a 50-minute session.
